I think it’s clear that I rather failed on my October goals for the blog. Now I could run off a load of excuses here and I do have them. But the simple fact is I set myself some goals and didn’t achieve them, excuses or not.
So I’m not going to overly dwell on it, I am going to set myself the same goals for November only this time I am going to challenge myself a little more by publically setting myself a penalty if I don’t achieve them. More on that a little later.
November Goals
So as I say I am going to set November goals to be the same as Octobers. Just a reminder of what they were:
- Write at least 10 quality posts by the end of the month.
- Approve or delete all comments as soon as possible.
- Increase RSS readership by 50%
I decided to change the rule on comments as there is no way I can guarantee I can always approve them in 24 hours, especially on the weekends. But at least I can make sure I get them done.
The Cost of Failure
I have decided that I am going to set myself a penalty for failure this time, maybe it will help me have a better month. So if I do not reach my goals in November, I will give away $50 paypal to one person who comments on this post.
I think the prospect of losing cash will spur me on to make this a much more successful month. Stay tuned.

Increasing RSS subscribers by 50% is quite a challenging goal! Like you October was a bad month for me… only posting once a week on one of my blogs as opposed to the target of every 2 days. Good luck with November though.

Sometimes it is better to make failure because you can learn a lot from mistakes. I am sure you will be much better in next month. We don’t know how many subscribers do you have, but that seems to be like a hardest part from your list. On the other side it could be easy if you fulfill the first goal with quality, because quality of posts is what brings constant readers and subscribes…. Good luck.

Have you established why you haven’t met your goals? For example, were they too ambitious?
Thought this might help… I’ve added your blog to my RSS reader because you focus on your own goals. Too many other sites just preach without any reflection on their own performance.

I can’t really offer any advice, I’m in the same boat (as far as not reaching my goals) but I can’t deny the prospect of free money will make me post on a blog.

I think I simply failed because I didn’t give the blog the attention it needed, I was too focussed elswhere. Thanks for adding me to your reader.

If I have anything to do with it, there won’t be any free money but we shall see lol

I guess what you’re doing now is getting people to be sort of accountable… in a sense, much more than just getting yourself pay for failure to achieve. Being hurt can be a powerful motivator but finding the ‘blogger in you’ can be more meaningful… (laughing on what i just said… =) though it tries to be serious to allow you to introspect on your personal goals more)

lol well you know there’s always next month to set the same goals as this month as i don’t think you’ll hit them this month either
…i know what’s it like for setting goals, somehow i always set them higher to try and push myself but never achieve them, i think the key is set yourself half the blog posts you have mentioned there and build from that

My target is to increase the traffic at least 10% per month. Aiming high sometimes leads to frustration that may cause laziness… I am 16% beyond my Oct target and hoping to increase my RSS subscriber by 12% this month…

I have a goal of a post a day or at least 30m for the month. So far so good. Also give Me the money. Nah, seriously I hope you suceed. Increasing rss readers by 50%, easy, but for me only because I don’t have many but for a popluar blog that would be tough.Best of luck.

50 dollars to a reader? That sounds great for the readers, but at the same time, I’d say maybe a $50 donation to some charity that could be tax de-ductable, that way, its still a loss, buy a small gain

50 dollars to charity sounds like a good idea really. I will consider that next time.
